Sequence-based hazard analysis for Italy considering a grid seismic source model

چکیده

Earthquakes are usually clustered in both time and space and, within each cluster, the event of highest magnitude is conventionally identified as mainshock, while foreshocks aftershocks events that occur before after it, respectively. Mainshocks earthquakes considered classical formulation probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA), where contribution neglected. In fact, it has been shown possible to rigorously, hypotheses model, account for effect mainshock-aftershocks sequences by means sequence-based PSHA (i.e., SPSHA). SPSHA extends usability homogeneous Poisson process, adopted mainshocks PSHA, also describe occurrence clusters maintaining same input data PSHA; i.e., rates derived a declustered catalog. The aftershocks’ occurrences accounted conditional non-homogeneous processes based on modified Omori law. source model Italy recently investigated, objective study herein presented include evaluate aftershocks, SPSHA, new grid model. paper, results compared, considering spectral return periods typical interest earthquake engineering. Finally, comparison with map well- established provided.

A Mutually Consistent Seismic-Hazard Source Model for Southem California

A previous attempt to integrate geological, geodetic, and observed seismicity data into a probabilistic-hazard source model predicted a rate of magnitude 6 to 7 earthquakes significantly greater than that observed historically. One explanation was that the discrepancy, or apparent earthquake deficit, is an artifact of the upper magnitude limit built into the model. This was controversial, howev...

CyberShake: A Physics-Based Seismic Hazard Model for Southern California

CyberShake, as part of the Southern California Earthquake Center’s (SCEC) Community Modeling Environment, is developing a methodology that explicitly incorporates deterministic source and wave propagation effects within seismic hazard calculations through the use of physics-based 3D ground motion simulations. To calculate a waveform-based seismic hazard estimate for a site of interest, we begin...

Poisson model for earthquake frequency uncertainties in seismic hazard analysis

Frequency-magnitude distributions, and their associated uncertainties, are of key importance in statistical seismology. When fitting these distributions , the assumption of Gaussian residuals is invalid since event numbers are both discrete and of unequal variance. In general, the observed number in any given magnitude range is described by a binomial distribution which, given a large total num...

Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis for Ground Shaking

Foreword The purpose of the Delta Risk Management Strategy (DRMS) Initial Technical Framework (ITF) is to guide the analysis of specific technical topics as they relate to assessing potential risks to Delta levees and assets resulting from various potential impacts (e.g., floods, earthquakes, subsidence, and climate change). These ITFs are considered " starting points " for the work that is to ...

Deterministic seismic hazard analysis for Peshawar, Pakistan

Ground motion estimation for a site (34.01 o N, 71.45 o E) located in the Peshawar in terms of Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) values is conducted. It is carried out with deterministic seismic hazard analysis approach using faults sources within a radius of one hundred kilometers around site. The results of this study indicate that the Main Boundary Thrust located at a distance of twenty nine (2...
